Work Like a Genius

How can you achieve your goals and lead a more satisfying personal and professional life? In our Sunday session Will Marre will present his research and recommendations on ways you can do all three!

Be prepared to hear solutions based on the Performance psychology field which looks for ways to optimize human behavior under relentless stress. This science studies high-demand professions ranging from military Special Forces to athletes to software engineers.

When this new research is combined with studies of the daily lives of world-changing geniuses ranging from Aristotle to Edison to Jobs a set of distinct daily practices emerges. The result is a startling clear picture of a daily pattern of living and working that promotes innovation, productivity, resilience and life satisfaction that can be adopted by anyone who is committed to work and live a high-level.

These practices are the foundation of Work Like a Genius, and it’s based on these 3 principles:

  1. You are responsible for creating your own great place to work every day.
  2. You need to develop your own career by developing a unique value proposition that combines your highly valued, relevant expertise with a passion for making your difference.
  3. Living by a daily, science-based schedule of reflecting, innovating, learning, problem solving and collaborating combined with optimal sleep, nutrition, and exercise will increase both creativity and productivity–which will provide both achievement and enjoyment at work.

3:30 PM - 4:30 PM / BUILDING THE FUTURE AGENCY

How to build the agency of the future!
Technology and diversity are the most critical factors driving growth

Does 50% of your agency population consist of multiculturals, women and millennials? If not, you may not be able to readily connect with the changing consumer. The changing face of America has created a huge challenge but also a great opportunity for many businesses. Today, every third person in America is either Hispanic, Black or Asian and over half of the population are women. Additionally, the millennials have become the largest living generation, surpassing the baby boomers in 2016 and numbering nearly 100 million people who represent over $2.5 trillion in consumer spending. Across the board, technology is playing a critical role and defining new rules of engagement.

Every business leader should ask themselves if they are leveraging technology and the diverse markets as a business opportunity. This session will focus not only on understanding the diverse opportunities but will also offer ideas and techniques to leverage these lucrative markets. You will hear from an industry expert providing creative ideas that can take your practice to the next level. It is about getting ready for disruption, knowing it is a matter of when it comes, not if it comes.

The Celebration of Excellence Awards (COE) celebrates the recipients of the James H. Krueger First in Class Honorees and the Brian H. Early Frontline Excellence Awards, as well as the GAMA International Management Hall of Fame inductee.

GAMA International created the First in Class Award in 2000 to recognize first-line leaders in the insurance, investment, and financial services industry who have led their agencies or firms to the number one position in their company during the preceding year. Recipients are nominated by their home offices, and each company determines the criteria it will use to select its nominee. Multiple nominees may be eligible for companies that segment distribution by market size or use a benchmark value proposition for their distribution systems. Companies are urged to nominate field leaders who excel as leaders in both their careers and their communities.

The Frontline Excellence Award, which debuted in 2010, recognizes field leaders who have shown exemplary performance in their current frontline positions and are considered to be emerging leaders in their companies. The award is named after the late Brian Early of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, an especially active GAMA member who had a powerful passion for helping emerging leaders grow and develop, and helped create the association’s Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LoTT). The recipients of this award serve to remind us where we will find the next generation of industry legends.

With a fourth of the industry likely to retire in the next few years, recruiting and retaining Generation Digital is of utmost importance. The advisor of the future will be powered by workflow applications that combine industry best demonstrated practices (e.g., One Card System, Project 100 market development) with the latest technology and social selling techniques. In this session, Jeff Tompkins and Brian Pasalich will look at how advanced virtual assistant technology can be used to incorporate industry best practices for prospecting and client development, automating much of the “busywork” that causes advisors to spend on average just 11 percent of their total time actively selling. Also to be covered is how managers can identify quality candidates using a data-driven approach to hiring.
